About

Every Sunday, since 2011.

A weekend school where children growing up in Wimbledon meet their Turkish, their culture, and themselves by name.

Our story

Our school was founded in 2011 by Atilla Abacıoğlu, with a group of London parents determined to keep their children’s bond with Turkish alive. A year later, in October 2012, Murat Şengüder joined us; for many years we carried the school together. Every Sunday since, we have gathered for three hours under the same roof.

For us Turkish isn’t just a lesson — it’s how a child speaks with their grandfather, grandmother, and cousin. That is why we lean on the warmth of family as much as on the curriculum.

Our purpose

Working from a programme aligned with the Turkish national curriculum and tuned to age groups, we help children love Turkish, read and write in it, and come to know their culture. The aim is a Sunday on which a child doesn’t shy away from Turkish but enjoys it.

Remembering Murat Şengüder with gratitude

We hold the memory of Murat Şengüder, who served as our school’s head teacher for many years and is no longer with us. His care for the families here, the warmth he gave and the order he kept all live on. Every Sunday’s open door is an extension of his work.

Backed by the T.C. London Consulate-General and the Ministry of National Education

Our school operates with the support of the T.C. London Consulate-General; our teachers are appointed by the T.C. Ministry of National Education. This connection keeps our curriculum aligned with Turkish standards and our teachers accredited in their field.
